CHEMICAL AND PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY
We protect against explosions in plants that process bulk material.
In the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, bulk materials are processed that have specific explosive characteristics. Small dust particles are released from these materials or substances into the air during the course of processing industrial production. With the movement of air, these particles become suspended in the air and can easily reach explosive concentrations. A dangerous explosion can occur when such a dust cloud comes into contact with an effective ignition source. The risk of explosion therefore primarily increases in enclosed areas.
THE BENEFITS OF EXPLOSION PROTECTION IN THE CHEMICAL AND PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY:
- Protect your property and expensive technology
- Lower the risk of damage and losses in production
- Increase productivity
- Increase occupational safety and the protection of human health and lives
- By eliminating lengthy downtimes, you retain your customers and economic stability
PROTECTING INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT:
- Material containers
- Air-driven transport
- Bucket elevators
- Suction equipment
- Dryers and other industrial equipment
THE RISK OF EXPLOSION IN THE CHEMICAL AND PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY
In the chemical and pharmaceutical industry bulk material, mostly organic in origin, is treated during the course of production. Small dust particles with specific explosive properties are released from these materials or substances into the air.
When mixed with air, this fine powder creates an explosive concentration inside and around production facilities. A mechanical spark or static discharge can occur inadvertently at the same location, or the surrounding surfaces can become heated. These conditions lead to the inevitable result of a sharp increase in local energy, heat and pressure. A sudden explosion is inevitable.
COMBINED ELEMENTS LEADING TO IGNITION AND EXPLOSION
Ignition and subsequent combustion occurs in the same place and at the same time:
- Substances characteristic of exothermic reactions (e.g. dust particles of organic material),
- Sufficient amount of oxygen (or oxidizing agents in general),
- Effective source of ignition
The risks of fire spreading and the resulting pressure waves after the explosion threaten not only the equipment and structure of the buildings, but primarily the health and lives of workers.
THE RISK OF CHAIN EXPLOSIONS
In industrial equipment that commonly consists of a spray dryer, vibrating chute, centrifuge, etc., a chain reaction of explosions may, under certain circumstances, be triggered, because different technologies are interconnected by an air-driven transport system. Underestimating the risk of explosion separation can bring dire consequences and even lead to a loss of human lives and destruction of equipment and entire buildings.
EXPLOSIONS IN THE CHEMICAL AND PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY MUST BE AVOIDED
These days it is possible to identify all the above risks in advance. Also the ATEX 137 Directive imposes an obligation to apply appropriate preventive measures to protect human lives and prevent the devastating effects of explosions in operating plants.
METHODS OF EXPLOSION PROTECTION
The most common technology used by RSBP includes:
- Equipment for explosion suppression
- Equipment for explosion relief
- Equipment for preventing explosion propagation
- Explosion protection for bucket elevators
